Eight Fun Things To Do In Elmhurst This Weekend

As the holidays approach, we're finding more and more activities in Elmhurst—fund-raisers, performances, shopping opportunities—and we'll do our best to keep you informed. Here's a look at some of the fun things going on this weekend.

1. She Kills Monsters at York High School. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Last chance to see this dramatic comedy that takes the audience into the world of fantasy role-playing games. She Kills Monsters deals with the personal struggles that high school students face every day. Not recommended for children under 12.

2. Lucky Stiff at Greenman Theatre. Imagine that you're a poor English shoe salesman who dreams of a better life. Now suppose that you receive a telegram stating that your late uncle just left you $6 million. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, at First United Methodist Church, 232 S. York, Elmhurst. $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and students.

3. Access Sports Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Knights of Columbus, 537 S. York Road. $10 at the door. Proceeds go toward helping children with disabilities in and around Elmhurst an opportunity to play a variety of sports.

4. Bake sale, Cookies for Kids' Cancer. 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday at Wilder Mansion, 211 Prospect Ave.

5. African Drumming Event. 3 p.m. Saturday at Luscombe Music, 122 W. Vallette. All ages welcome! 

6. Gerry O'Keefe acoustic performance. 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamburger Jones, 551 S. York. Gerry is a former member of The Hideouts and other bands. No cover.

7. Annual Holiday Market. One-of-a-kind art, crafts, jewelry, handbags, children’s clothing, gourmet food and unique holiday gifts from more than 50 artists and food vendors from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilder Mansion, 211 Prospect Ave.

8. What Roger Ebert Meant to Us. 7 p.m. Sunday at Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst. A panel of the film critic’s peers from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and rogerebert.com will discuss Ebert’s contributions to journalism and the movies. $20.
