Celebrate Anniversary of Classic Cinemas, Adopt a Pet, See a Play

Taking it easy or tearing it up? What are your plans for the weekend?

Here's a look at weekend happenings in and around Elmhurst this weekend:

Saturday, Aug. 10:

  • Come one, come all for the annual Churchville Prairie and Diversity Garden Clean-up from 8 to 10 a.m. Volunteers will weed, plant and water to get the "yard" in great shape for the start of school. The prairie and its adjacent outdoor classroom is used as a learning tool for students. Bring gloves and gardening tools marked with your name. Many hands will make quick work.
  • A BAM Theatre cast from all over the western suburbs, including several Elmhurst children, will perform "Shrek, The Musical," at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10 and 11, at Nazareth Academy, 1209 W. Ogden Ave., LaGrange Park. "Get ready to unleash your inner freak." —Director Max Cervantes
  • Top Dog Retreat, 180 W. Lake St., Elmhurst, is hosting an animal adoption event beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. Meet dogs available through the Animal Rescue Foundation.

Sunday, Aug. 11
