14 Things To Do In and Around Elmhurst This Weekend

1. The event all Elmhurst kids have been waiting for, Elmhurst City Centre's Boo-tiful Saturday, will begin at 9 a.m. with a free showing of "Hotel Transylvania" at the York Theatre, followed by trick-or-treating with downtown merchants from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children 10 and under. Be sure to bring your own goodie bag!

2. This is the premier weekend for haunted houses; check out this interactive map to locate them.

3. Football: York Dukes vs. Glenbard West 1 p.m. at Glenbard West, 670 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

4. Last Weekend for Pumpkins! Find a Farmers Market 

5. Elmhurst Police Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elmhurst Police Department, 125 E. First St., west parking lot. Check your home for unwanted prescriptions and drop them off, no questions asked. For information, call Sgt. Michael McLean at (630) 530-3050.

6. Elmhurst District 205 Foundation's Midnight Masquerade to support local schools will be from 7 p.m. to midnight. Food, desserts, beverages, live music and auctions.

7. Spirito! Singers recital featuring Brad Garvin of the Metropolitan Opera will be held at 7 p.m. at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, 1099 S. York Road.

8. Over 40 and Hired! Looking for a job? Over 40? Come to Elmhurst College Frick Center from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and learn how to navigate the challenges of a career change and potential age bias in today's job market. 

9. Trunk or Treat at Immanuel Lutheran School, 148 E. Third St., Elmhurst.  Kids can come dressed in friendly costumes to trick or treat at fun, themed trunks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

10. Liberty Village Fall Festival, 415 N. York Road, Elmhurst. Many local crafters, including the Liberty Village Craft Group, will display their beautiful and interesting products for purchase and gift giving for the coming Holiday season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bake sale, and raffle prizes, too!

11. Monster Mash Lock-in at Elmhurst Public Library. Kids in grades six through nine will enjoy music, crafts, food, games and scary stories. Starts at 7 p.m.

12. Another Mega-pet Adoption in Elmhurst. Come and meet your new best friend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at Petco, 199 Route 83 in Elmhurst.

Sunday, Oct. 27

13. Journey Church Celebrates One Year in Elmhurst. Come join the service at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration with free lunch, music, face painting and much more at Waterford Conference Center, 933 S. Riverside Drive.
