York Ecology Club Members Put in a Very Long Day at Northern Illinois Food Bank

The need is big, and getting bigger.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, York High School joined 12 schools from the West Suburban Conference and sent 140 volunteers to the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva.

The Food Bank is a new facility that permits large groups to work together.  The West Suburban Conference activity directors planned the service project to collaborate for a common cause and educate students on hunger.

The number of families in need continues to increase and is a serious issue in Dupage and Cook counties. The 140 students packed and prepared food items from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., before before the items were shipped out to food pantries.

The students that attended from York were seniors Zach Backus, Melanie Biegler, Kristen Borel and Mikayla McIntyre; juniors Corinne Osmanski and Ross Reichert; and sophomores Megan Hull and Blair Porter.  All eight students are involved in the Ecology Club at York. Science teacher Bob Blaus attended as the ecology sponsor.
