Go for the Gold & Take Charge of your Healthy Life with The Runner's Soul

Do you vow year after year to finally eat healthier, lose weight, and start getting active? Why not make 2014 the year you finally achieve it? Come traverse the Olympic bobsled run as you “go for the gold” towards your destination of a healthier life!

The Runner’s Soul, in conjunction with world class athlete and trainer Ingrid Marcum of BGB Fitness in Elmhurst, kicks off their 9 week “Go for the Gold” Healthy Lifestyle and Fitness Challenge on Monday, January 20th! This multifaceted challenge offers participants the chance to receive supportive and knowledgeable coaching in both exercise and nutrition, as well as offering peer support and accountability. A short informational Kickoff meeting will be held tonight, Wednesday, January 15th at 6:30pm at The Runner’s Soul, Elmhurst. Participants will get a chance to meet the coach and other members of the group, discuss the parameters of the challenge, and get motivated to start their healthy lifestyle.

Research shows  that people who exercise with a supportive peer group tend to be more successful in achieving their weight loss and fitness goals. What’s more, they have increased probability of long term success in adhering to their healthy lifestyle and weight loss.

The “Go for the Gold” challenge offers so much more than just a fitness program. It also addresses nutrition.  A good balance between exercise and nutrition promotes a healthy lifestyle.  David Grotto, RD LDN, will be guest speaker at the seminar Nutrition for a Healthy Life, which is part of this program.  http://davidgrotto.wordpress.com/about/

“I believe in meeting people where they are at currently, and giving them the information and encouragement they need to make little, positive changes,” says trainer Ingrid Marcum, who works with people of all ages and fitness levels at her facility in Elmhurst.

Marcum will lead the group in a weekly workout at her studio, using cutting edge exercise principles to help participants build muscle, get stronger, and burn fat in the most efficient and effective ways possible for their individual fitness levels. She will also serve as the group’s coach, providing them with weekly exercise and nutritional tips, providing accessibility and support thru a closed Facebook group, as well as email, and will discuss proper posture and its importance during movement at a workshop.

Participants will earn prizes and incentives along the way for extra exercise and good nutrition. You don’t have to be or want to be a runner to participate either. “We here at The Runner’s Soul do not just serve the running community,” says owner Jayne Aspan. “We support people in all their active endeavors! Whether you are a runner, biker, walker, or yoga enthusiast, you’ll find a home here for all your needs.”

Here are just some of the other benefits you’ll receive when you sign up for “Go for the Gold”:

  • Three scheduled and private Weigh-ins to help keep you accountable throughout the challenge.
  • A healthy grocery store tour and cooking demo at Mariano’s, teaching you how to recognize healthy foods, how to read labels, and easy, go-to meals.
  • A weekly group walk on Saturday mornings, allowing you to both get exercise and bond with the other members in the group.
