Kiwanis Luncheon Speakers: Keeping Children Safe in School

Dr. Raymond Lauk to discuss "Keeping Children Safe in Schools." Guests are welcome to attend.

Parents, teachers and school administrators have always been concerned about the safety of kids in (and outside)  the classroom.  But in the aftermath of Sandy Hook, and other revelations in recent years; the topic has moved to the forefront of discussion on both a national and local level.

Though the subject is naturally fraught with emotion and controversy,  the mission of Kiwanis International  is to Serve the Children of the World; as such we would be remiss to ignore the topic.

The Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst is proud to add to our Luncheon Speakers Program, a number of experts and community leaders who will visit and speak to the club (and guests) on such matters, over the course of the next few months.

The first such discussion will be this Tuesday, April 9, when we host Dr. Raymond Lauk to discuss Keeping Children Safe in Schools: Facts, Fictions and Fairy Tales.

Dr. Lauk is the Superintendent of the Cook County School District 130 in Blue Island, where he is a member of the Blue Island/Crestwood Rotary Club.

From 2006 to 2009, Dr. Lauk was the Education Solutions Manager at GE Security, a GE company that specialized in keeping schools safe and secure using advanced technology and expert analysis.  He worked with schools across the country to develop school safety programs that protected students and increased student learning.  His also author of the book Fuel For Learning.

Dr. Lauk will present “a highly controversial approach to keeping schools safe, and his ideas will be unconventional and shocking to most of you.”

The Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst does welcome guests to attend our regular luncheon speaker meetings, but we do ask that you contact us in advance.
