Severe Storms Are Headed This Way; Tornadoes, Damaging Winds Possible

City of Elmhurst assures residents it is ready to deal with any potential hazards.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for our area. The hazardous weather outlook for June 12 includes several rounds of thunderstorms, possibly resulting in very heavy rainfall, flooding, damaging winds in excess of 75 miles per hour and baseball size hail. The flash flood watch is in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, strong storms are expected to begin in Elmhurst at about 7 p.m., with heavy rain continuing until about midnight.

According to the Weather Service, the storms could affect the evening commute in the Chicago area. "Damaging winds, large hail, some tornadoes, and local flash flooding from brief heavy rainfall are all threats," according to the severe weather tracker page on Weather.com.

The city of Elmhurst released the following statement to residents Wednesday:

The City is on alert should the need arise to take action. Please use discretion and caution when driving in hazardous conditions. In case of an emergency dial 911. The non-emergency police number is 630-530-3050.
