Hawthorne Kids Gather at Berens Park to View Venus Event

Elmhurst resident offered up his telescopes last week for the transit of Venus, which won't happen again until 2117.

School may be out for the summer, but that doesn't mean all learning stops.

On June 5, Elmhurst resident Mike Plaiss brought his telescopes to so the neighborhood kids could get a look at the , the rare occasion when the brightest of planets passes between Earth and the sun.

The students who participated were from , along with their younger siblings. They viewed the event safely by looking at a projection of the sun, not looking directly at the sun.
