Elmhurst hasn't hosted a fireworks display for decades, but Elmhurst partners with its neighbors to the north, Bensenville and Wood Dale, for Liberty Fest July 4 at Redmond Park in Bensenville. The day begins with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by activities and music. The fireworks display begins at around 9:30 p.m.

Also nearby: Taste of Lombard, Taste of Oak Brook and what is being billed as "The largest fireworks display in the Chicago area" (although we've never confirmed that) in Itasca at Hamilton Lakes.

And don't forget, the 4 on the 4th 4-mile run kicks off at Prospect and Church in Elmhurst at 7:15 a.m. July 4.
