Veto Session Ends: Rep. Conroy Wraps Up First Legislative Session

VILLA PARK – This week’s veto session marked the last time that the Illinois General Assembly is scheduled to meet for the 2013 legislative session.

“During veto session we made major progress on some issues but still have more work to do on other issues, especially pension reform,” said Conroy. “The House passed SB 10, historic legislation that gives same sex couples and families equal rights under the law through civil marriage."

During the veto session, legislators were not able to reach a decision on pension reform legislation and there is a possibility that the legislature will reconvene for a special session in December to vote on a pension reform plan.

“The instability the state’s pension systems has affected the state’s credit rating, and created an unstable economic environment,” said Conroy. “The time has come to pass serious reforms that preserve the pension systems for those who have diligently paid into them for years and to rescue the critical services in the state budget from unconscionable cuts. I remain hopeful that we will head back to Springfield to vote on a pension reform plan before the New Year.”
