York's Homecoming Game Not Easy to Watch

The Huskies of Oak Park-River Forest High School came in and steamrolled the Dukes.

York's Homecoming football game didn't turn out as planned. The Dukes were routed 41-13 by Oak Park-River Forest High School Friday, in their second conference loss of the season.

The Homecoming crowd was silenced early on as the Huskies (5-0) took command of Clarence D. East field. In the first 90 seconds, Lloyd Yates ran 56 yards down the sideline for an easy touchdown to make it 7-0.

With 5:33 left in the first quarter, the Huskies' Jamal Baggett scored again after a 60-yard drive.

The Dukes had one bright spot when they were able to cut the Huskies' lead in half thanks to an Oak Park fumble. Charlie Rose completed a 15-yard pass to Kyle Preuss for the TD. (See accompanying video.)

But the Huskies had a dramatic answer. On the next play, Baggett ran 97 yards on the kickoff return for another touchdown, making it 21-7.

Midway through the second quarter, it looked like York had another TD. Kyle Stearns ran 75 yards into the endzone, but an illegal block was called against York.

The Huskies went on to score 20 more points, including a 37-yard goal by Simmie Cobbs, another 90-yard kickoff return by Baggett late in the first half and a 55-yard TD in the fourth by Jeremy Moore.

With 4:33 left in the game, Joe Biggins drove in the final touchdown for York.

The Dukes are now 0-2 in WSC Silver, 2-3 overall. They take on Proviso West (2-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in Hillside. The game will be broadcast live on Elmhurst Patch, courtesy of High School Cube.
