York Softball Takes Maine South 15-0 and 14-3 on Saturday

Bittersweet: York graduates seven team members this year.

The York Softball Team extended its winning streak to four games on Saturday, May 12, behind the bats of its seniors. Saturday’s double header at Bryan Middle School was York’s Senior Day in Elmhurst; the program is graduating seven girls this year.

York got off to a slow start offensively, missing a few opportunities early in the game, but the Dukes capitalized in the third. Nicollette Salerno led off the inning with a 2B and later scored on a single by sophomore Angela Scalzitti. Alyssa Johnson then hit a two-run homer, giving the Dukes a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth, York blew the game open scoring 11 times. Tessa Kroll had a great day on the mound, striking out five and only allowing one hit in the shutout.

In Game 2, the Dukes continued their hot offense, scoring 14 runs. Angela Scalzitti had a big day, going 6 for 7 with 6 runs and 3 RBIs.  The Dukes had 17 hits in the second game. Looks like they are catching a hot streak at the right time going into Regionals, York Coach Drew McGuire said.
