Tres Heimann Named Coach of the Year

Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association honored Tres Heimann for his record and commitment to the York Girls Tennis Team.

York High School Girls Tennis Coach Tres Heimann was named Coach of the Year by the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association. Heimann also is dean of students at York.

Each year, coaches are recognized based on team record, obstacles the team faced, contributions the coach made to the sport outside of the high school season and player development.

York girls tennis team had a successful 2012 season. Here are a few highlights:

  • sixth consecutive sectional championship
  • all six players qualified for the state tournament
  • five players were all-state: one singles player (2nd team all-state), 2 doubles teams (both honorable mention all-state)
  • highest team finish in school history (sixth place at the state tournament)
  • second straight year finishing in the state’s Top 10

Heimann’s Dukes played a very challenging schedule in 2012 and recorded accomplishments up and down the line-up, taking on Hinsdale Central, Lyons Township and Oak Park-River Forest. Heimann said he believes in preparing his players by sending them out against the state’s finest on a weekly basis.

“We had a great group of girls who worked very hard both during the season and in the off-season to help prepare them," Heimann said. "It was very enjoyable to go to the courts every day. Three seniors led our team at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Our No. 1 singles player, Maria Avgerinos, was a three-time all-state player and finished her senior season in ninth to 12th place. She is signed to play at Syracuse University next year.

"York had three positions seeded at the state tournament, and five players earned All-State status in the same year," Heimann said. "Just as enjoyable, though, was the process leading up to the tournament with the work that was put in during the summer months and then during the season. We have received a lot of support from York and the Elmhurst community. We are very excited to continue building a program at York High School.”

Heimann was honored at an awards luncheon Jan. 25 iat the Vaughn Athletic Center in Aurora.

Coach Heimann was my son's freshman / sophomore basketball coach at York. He's a York graduate and athlete and an outstanding coach. A real asset to the program at York.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
