Tennis: York Girls Win Seventh Consecutive Sectional Title

The York Girls Tennis Team won their seventh consecutive Sectional championship Saturday, Oct. 19, qualifying both singles and both doubles teams for the state tournament.

In Singles, Annie Rivera finished in second place, playing a tough final match against McKenna Byrne from Timothy Christian High School. Paige Wing improved her record to 18 wins and 17 losses, as she finished in third place at Sectionals.

Blaire Porter and Angela Avgerinos won their second consecutive Sectional doubles title and improved their record to 29-5 together in doubles. Both have 31 wins and six losses overall. 

Abigail Kayman and Randi Wilson had a win in the semifinals over Timothy Christian’s first doubles team (6-2, 6-0), finishing in second in the Sectional and improving their record to 19 wins and 12 losses together.

The state tournament will be Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 24-26, at Buffalo Grove High School.
