Soccer Roundup: Banuelos Selected to Olympic Development Program, Voss Named All-academic

Young women from Elmhurst are making a name for themselves in soccer.

Bryce Banuelos of Elmhurst was selected to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Girls Olympic Development Program Pool Team in her age group. Regional and national coaches recently selected her at a regional camp in DeKalb. The top 18 players from each of 14 Midwestern states competed for selection to the Pool Team.

Bryce, the daughter of Michael and Maria Banuelos, is a junior at York High School and a member of Team Chicago Soccer Club.

Ellie Singer, Region II administrator for the Olympic Development Program, said being selected to the regional pool is a major accomplishment.

"Bryce will be observed now and in the future for possible selection to a U.S. National Team," she said. "Some of these players have gone on to win Olympic Gold Medals in 1996, and are represented on the FIFA Women's World Cup, 2008 and 2012 Olympic and National Teams."

Some Region II players played on the Inaugural U-19 World Cup 2002 team in Canada, which finished first, and they were recently seen in the FIFA WWC final game against Japan.
