York High School senior David Cohn is in a popularity contest of sorts, but his 3-point shooting speaks for itself. Just watch the video of his high school shoot-out performance that was posted on YouTube Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Cohn is up for a chance to go to Atlanta and compete in American Family Insurance's National High School 3-Point Championships that will air Saturday, April 6, on CBS. The championships also will feature the nation's elite high school dunkers.
For the second consecutive year, fans will decide which players will make it to the finals by voting through Facebook—and only through Facebook. Each week for six weeks, contestants will compete in a bracket-style knockout competition determined solely by fan votes. Half the field will advance after each round.
Voters can go to facebook.com/highschoolslam (highschoolslam.com on mobile) and click on videos of Cohn and all the other shooters and dunkers in their initial high school contests. In the first round, Cohn is up against a student from Rolling Fork, Mississippi.
Cohn (6-feet, 2-inches, 170 pounds) is a Dukes Varsity shooting guard. He has signed with Colorado State University and is looked at as "a potential four-year starter" for the Rams, according to an article on The Coloradoan website. Cohn has been instrumental in helping York to its current 18-5 record.
Voting for Round One of the 3-point competition is open until noon Feb. 20. Voting for the quarterfinal round is Feb. 20-27; semifinal round, Feb. 27-March 6; and final round, March 6-20.
Winners of the Facebook competition will be announced Wednesday, March 20, and will travel to Atlanta April 4-5 to compete in the championships, airing at 1 p.m. Central April 6 on CBS.
You can watch Cohn in action live this Saturday, Feb. 9, as the Dukes take on Downers Grove North in Downers Grove at 7:30 p.m.
