ICHS Promotes Tyrrell to Head Boys Basketball Coach

Immaculate Conception High School has hired T.J. Tyrrell as head boys basketball coach. Tyrrell, who has served as a coach in the ICHS basketball program since 2002, is also an alumnus of the Class of 1997. 

Tyrrell has coached at all levels since rejoining his alma mater, including most recently as the head coach of the sophomore team.

A standout player and student during his years at ICHS, Tyrrell went on to play at Dominican University, where he earned Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Academic All-Conference honors (2000-2001) and was named an National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-Region Academic Scholar Athlete (1999-2000).  He was also voted Dominican Basketball’s “Mr. Star” in 2001, which is an award given by the coaches and teammates to the person who best exemplifies leadership, dedication, sportsmanship and hard work both on and off the court.  Tyrrell earned a bachelor's in business administration magna cum laude (minor in computer information systems) from Dominican University in 2001.

“T.J. is not only extremely knowledgeable and well-respected as a coach, he is just such a great person and will serve as a wonderful role model for our young men," ICHS Principal Pamela Levar said in a prepared statement. “As a former student and now a coach, T.J. understands the importance of the athletic and academic traditions we have at IC. He is committed to the positive development of his players both on the court and in the classroom.”

Tyrrell is an inside sales and marketing manager for The Cary Company in Addison.  He has been with the company since 1997, and has been in his current position since 2005. Tyrrell and his wife, Natalie, live  in Lombard with their two children.

ICHS hired new to replace Darren Howard earlier this month, and ICHS's after one season by Bill Krefft in January. At that time, the school's administration said they "wanted to take the football program in a different direction."
