IC Volleyball Coach Earns 800th Victory

Immaculate Conception girls volleyball coach Jean Field recorded her 800th career coaching victory Sept. 2, when the Knights defeated University High.

Immaculate Conception volleyball coach Jean Field reached another milestone Sept. 2.

Field earned her 800th career coaching victory for the Knights as they went on to capture the championship of the two-day Timothy Christian/Westmont Tournament.

IC will make a special presentation to Field Wednesday, Sept. 14, before the Knights’ home match against St. Edward.

Field is only the eighth coach in Illinois high school girls volleyball history with at least 800 coaching victories, according to the IHSA website. The historic moment came with the Knights’ 25-13, 25-4 victory over University High.

IC (6-3) went on to win the tournament Sept. 3 by beating St. Edward 25-17, 25-23 in the semifinals and Timothy 23-25, 26-24, 25-19 in the title match. IC had lost to Timothy 25-23, 25-19 in pool play the previous day and beat Aurora Christian 25-15, 25-20.

On Wednesday, the Knights improved to 2-0 in Suburban Christian Conference play with a 25-20, 25-15 victory over Aurora Christian.

Top players for the Knights included Delaney D’Amore (7 kills, 9 digs), Kimmie Martino (6 kills, 5 assists), Liz Martino (8 assists), Emily Hartnett (5 kills) and Kathleen Ryan (6 digs). 

In its SCC opener Aug. 31, IC defeated Walther Lutheran 25-13, 25-19 behind Jen Clementi (5 kills), D’Amore (4 kills, 8 digs) and Martino (4 kills).
