ICHS Sports Roundup: Another Big Game for Football Team Saturday

The Immaculate Conception football team plays host to St. Francis while the volleyball team reaches 20 victories and the cross country teams prepare for the conference meet.

The Immaculate Conception football team’s home game against St. Francis at 1 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 15) is the Comcast Game of the Week.

The Knights will try to bounce back after a tough 35-28 Homecoming loss to Aurora Christian Friday (Oct. 7) with first place in the Suburban Christian Conference Gold Division at stake.

IC (5-2, 3-1 in SCC Gold) led 14-13 after three quarters, but the Eagles (6-1, 4-0) outscored the Knights 22-14 in the fourth quarter, climaxing with a 36-yard touchdown pass with eight seconds left after IC regained the lead 28-27 on Dan Vatch’s 1-yard TD run and Adam Muellers’ extra point.

IC quarterback Demetrius Carr rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 65-yard TD pass to Tim Hipskind that put the Knights ahead 21-19 in the fourth quarter.

The Knights are one victory away from clinching a berth in the state playoffs.

IC Girls Volleyball

The Immaculate Conception girls volleyball team moved to 8-1 in the Suburban Christian Conference with a 25-21, 25-23 victory at St. Edward Wednesday (Oct. 12) in Elgin.

Leading the Knights (20-9) were Emily Hartnett (7 kills), Jen Clementi (5 kills), Kellyanne Remy (3 kills, 2 blocks), Kimmie Martino (11 assists, 3 kills) and Delaney D'Amore (8 digs).

IC reached the 20-victory mark Thursday (Oct. 13) by beating Mt. Assisi 25-17, 25-16.

IC Cross Country

The Immaculate Conception boys and girls cross country teams will compete at the Suburban Christian Conference Meet Saturday (Oct. 15) at Marmion Academy.

Race times are 9:30 a.m. (frosh-soph girls), 10 a.m. (frosh-soph boys), 10:30 a.m. (varsity girls) and 11 a.m. (varsity boys).
