Football: York Gets Much-needed Win Over Proviso West, IC Catholic Loses to Montini

Playoff hopes alive for the Dukes; Knights fought hard against a powerhouse team.

York 27, Proviso West 20

York (3-3, 1-2) got on the board in the second quarter, with a couple of Charlie Rose field goals, bringing the score to 6-0 going into halftime.

The third quarter saw a pair of York touchdowns: A Joe Biggins TD midway through the third brought the score to 13-0, and a right after that, the Dukes' Ted Harrold intercepted a Proviso West pass (see accompanying highlight video) and returned it 44 yards for a TD. It was 20-0 York.

Proviso West (2-4, 0-3) came back late in the game, scoring three touchdowns all in the fourth quarter. But it was too little, too late for the Panthers.

The Dukes' win keeps their hopes alive for a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

IC Catholic Prep 21, Montini Catholic 38

The Broncos of Montini Catholic High School remain undefeated after last Friday's 38-21 win against IC Catholic Prep at Montini's Homecoming game. IC is now 3-3 for the season, 2-2 in SCC conference play.

The scrappy Knights fought hard. Even thought they couldn't get on the board at all in the first half, they gave the Broncos a run for their money in the second.

"Montini's defense is the best defense we've seen so far this year," Knights coach Bill Krefft told the Daily Herald. "They are incredible on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense."
