Bluejays Ready to Roll Next Football Season with New (Familiar) Coach

Elmhurst College Football promotes from within to maintain consistency, build on strengths from 2012.

It's been less than two weeks since Elmhurst College Football Coach Tim Lester announced he was resigning to take a position as quarterback coach at Syracuse University in New York. The college didn't waste any time finding his replacement.

The Bluejays announced Tuesday that Joe Adam has been hired as their new head coach. The college didn't have to look too far. Adam has been an assistant coach for the Bluejays for the past six seasons.

Adam was part of the coaching staff that led the Bluejays to their best football season ever last year. After winning a share of the CCIW championship for the first time since 1980, Elmhurst (10-2) went on to win in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs against Coe College.

Elmhurst Athletic Director Paul Krohn said a prompt hiring decision was vital in keeping the team on its upward trajectory.

"Joe was the right-hand man of Tim Lester and was highly endorsed by Tim for the job," Krohn was quoted as saying in a press release.
