York Runner Jack Driggs Helps Create Next Generation of Cross Country Superstars

Driggs pays a visit to Lincoln School Monday to run with the Running Club.

York Cross Country hero Jack Driggs paid a visit to Lincoln Elementary School in Elmhurst Monday to give students in the school's running club some tips and share what it was like winning the state championship.

Driggs, who placed second overall at the state meet Nov. 6 with a time of 14:16,  was honored to run with the kids.

"I just thought it would be a good way of giving back to the community," he said. "I know some of the kids that went here, and I graduated from (Lincoln) myself. It's a lot of fun to be back here and see a couple of kids that I know. It's good stuff."

And from the looks of things, his visit went a long way toward planting the seeds for future cross country runners at York.

"Hi guys!," he said after being announced. "I'm Jack Driggs and I'm part of the 2010 championship team at York. I'm here to run with you guys. I was in your shoes awhile ago."

After a brief talk, he gave students a chance to touch the championship trophy that he brought with him from York.

He was mobbed.

"I'll never wash this hand again," one boy said.
