York Math Team Collects First Place Finishes at Regional Competition

York High School Math Team students placed first in four categories in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) regional competition Saturday, February 22 at York High School. 

The regional contest consists of ten areas of competition. Students may compete in a maximum of three of the ten competitions. Each regional assignment has 8 teams with each level rostering up to 6 team members.

  • Travis Parr:   1st place PreCalculus; 1st place Orals
  • Kanchi Shah:  1st place Algebra II
  • Lucas Gough:  1st place Geometry
Travis Parr was deemed the best presenter out of seven candidates on the topic of geometric probability – that contest involves a 10 minute presentation before a panel of two university judges.  He was assisted by Darren David.

2014 Math team state finals are May 3, 2014 at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
