York Band Quintet Entertains Pupils at Pep Rally

Students play at Brook Park School in La Grange Park

A quintet  of band students from York High School in Elmhurst played last week at an end-of-the school- year day of fun and pep rally at a La Grange Park school.

In December, the York High School band members - two of whom have since graduated – played music  instead of ringing a bell for the Salvation Army.

Cynthia St. Peter, a music  teacher at Brook Park School and whose son attended York, invited the five to perform May 30 for kindergarten through fifth-grade pupils.

Recent graduates Shane Dickinson and A.J. Digregorio played djembe and didgeridoo with a cajon, respectively. Also playing was now senior Shawn John on tenor and bari saxophone, as well as senior  Eric Hildendorf and junior Matthew Stevenson on bongos and Indian Tabla.

The students loved the truly exotic performance by the percussion and saxophone group, asking questions and getting a chance to jam themselves.

In the following pep rally, the student body was treated to a wonderful visit and performance by Benny the Bull, the Chicago Bull's mascot.

It was a great day for the school and an amazing day for the quintet who enjoyed playing for the local students.
