Students from Elmhurst Earn Recognition Away at College

We're thrilled to bring you news about students who are graduating, on the dean's list, making teams, earning foreign language honors and more.

Amanda Bullen of Elmhurst was named to dean's list for the fall quarter at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Ga.

Emory University senior Kaele Leonard of Elmhurst was named the University Athletic Association Track and Field Athlete of the Week after her performance at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta. Leonard recorded the second-fastest 400-meter dash time in Division III this season, winning the event with a time of 56.62 seconds.  The mark ranked as the third-fastest in school history.  She also ran a leg of the Eagles’ winning 4x400-meter relay team, which recorded a time of 3:54.00, also the second-fastest in Division III this year, and the eighth-best all-time in school history.  Leonard contributed 12.5 points to the Eagles’ team total. Leonard’s performance at the meet helped the Eagles finish first in the team standings at the Emory Invitational.

Kathleen Pyne, Rakhi Shah and Scott Labunski received bachelor's degrees from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., following the fall semester. Purdue also announced the following students were named to the honors list for the fall semester: Michael Ruchti, Rakhi Shah, Devon Tamm, Lindsey Rhea, Mansi Parikh, Calie Gihl and Sharise Lund.

Charlene Osmanski was named to dean's list for the fall semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. She is majoring in business and management.

Daniel Headley, Mary Kate Rohn and Kimberly Smaga were named to the dean's list for the winter term at North Central College, Naperville.
 

Abigail Elf was inducted into Phi Sigma Iota Foreign Language Honor Society at the University of Evansville, Evansville, Ind. She is majoring in French Education. Elf was one of nine students inducted into UE's chapter of Phi Sigma Iota at the annual initiation ceremony April 7. Elf also was named the 2012-13 Outstanding Student in French by the Department of Foreign Languages. She was chosen by faculty members for her exceptional accomplishments in language studies during the 2012-13 academic year. Winners were recognized at a department reception April 22.

Zachary Zurawski received a merit scholarship for the 2013-14 school year from Blackburn College, Carlinville.

  • Sophia Kelly, sophomore, communication sciences and disorders and Spanish for professional use
  • Matthew Mordini, senior, political science
  • Brian Pollastrini, senior, Spanish and English
  • Kerry Robbins, junior, communication studies and psychology
  • Katherine Segreti, junior, business administration-management and sociology
  • Amy Seida, senior, communication sciences and disorders
  • Cody Sharko, senior, multimedia journalism and mass communication and business administration-advising
  • Erik Westerberg, junior, mathematics education

Raymond Yong is a member of the Carleton College Baseball Team for the 2013 season. Yong is a junior at Carleton, Northfield, Minn. Carleton is coached by Aaron Rushing, who is in his seventh season as the Knights' head coach. Carleton is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III. The Knights earned their first playoff berth in 2009, and since then have had six All-MIAC and two All-region players.

Brian Spisiak is a member of the Carleton men's outdoor track and field team for the 2013 season. The senior is coached by Dave Ricks, who is in his 10th season as the Knights' head coach. Since 2000, the Knights have had 34 All-MIAC and 5 All-American outdoor performances.

Jaclyn Hante was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society at Aurora University. The Society recognizes achievement in scholarship; athletics; campus or community service, social or religious activities and campus government; journalism, speech and the media; and creative and performing arts.

Hillary De Grandis, Sylwia Kocinska and Meghan Madden were named to honors list for the fall semester at Dominican University, River Forest. Karla Bayas and Kelsey Wilcoxon were named to the dean's list. Honors list students achieved a semester grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Dean's list students earned at least a 3.8 GPA.
