Elmhurst District 205 Will Go Over School Report Card Data Tuesday

Elmhurst Unit District 205 School Board will meet on Tuesday to discuss the 2012 School Report Card and bond refinancing, and honor some exceptional students, among other business.

The board will first meet in closed session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss probable or imminent litigation and employment of an employee.

The open meeting will convene at 7:30 p.m. in the board room at the administration building, 162 S. York St.

First item on the agenda is student and staff recognition:

• National Merit Commended students from York High School: Laura Anderson, Claire Cornell, Margaret Crotser, Leah Gortowski, Jenna Honeywell, Peter Howland, Joseph Kleinhans, Laura Krance, Anna Lansdowne, Justin McDonough, Anne Nelson, Anthony Pierotti, Elena Schwarz, Kailey Slavik and Garrett Stevenson. Students are chosen based on their PSAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test and represent the top 5 percent of US high school seniors.
• Those Who Excel Awards: retired Jefferson School kindergarten teacher Patricia Fox, Award of Recognition in the Classroom Teacher category; retired librarian Betty Laliberte, Award of Merit in the category of Community Volunteer; Bryan Middle School teacher Effey Nassis, Award of Recognition in the Early Career Educator category; and Jackson School educational assistant Jonathan Palles, Award of Excellence in the Educational Service Personnel category

The board will then take public comment from members of the community on any topic. Speakers will be allowed three minutes.

Superintendent David Pruneau will review any Freedom of Information Act requests, which will be followed by a presentation on the 2012 School Report Card data.

A discussion on bond refinancing will be up next. Then, two of the board's four committees—Curriculum and Instruction, and Finance and Operations—will give a synopsis on what they've been working on since their last meetings.

The board will approve minutes from the Oct. 9 meeting, and is expected to approve the superintendent's consent agenda, which, in addition to personnel and financial reports, includes the following items:

• Acceptance of School Report Cards
• Approval of 2012-13 Application for Recognition of Schools
• Approval to display six new pieces of supplementary materials for the middle school level for use during the second semester, and 33 new supplemental materials for the high school. A list of the proposed novels can be found here. They will be on display for 30 days before they are officially approved.
• Approval (second reading) of policies on fund balances and residence

The board will then vote to approve an intergovernmental agreement between the Illinois Comptroller and District 205 to permit access to the comptroller's local debt recovery program, which is an additional tool the district can use to collect unpaid fees, bounced checks and library fines, among other debt.

Finally, the board will review it's upcoming meetings and share any other announcements.
