District 205 Roundup

Among other business, Elmhurst District 205 School Board members on Monday:

  • passed a motion to send a student back to her home school. After a closed session discussion on the student's residency, the board agreed to uphold a hearing officer's finding that the student does not reside within the Jackson School  attendance boundaries but rather in the Lincoln School boundaries. The student will be allowed to finish this year at Jackson, but must attend Lincoln next year.
  • continued a lengthy discussion about the district's mission and vision statements. The board has been working on re-writing the two statements for months with input from community members, teachers and students. The statements will become the basis for the district's strategic plan and reflect performance goals and objectives. The board has not reached consensus, and the discussion will continue in committee. "If we're going to live with these statements, really use them, we need to slow down a little bit," board member Maria Hirsch said. "We'll have the district's performance indicators finalized in June. We need to connect the mission and vision statements with those indicators."
  • learned that questions generated at a community forum Nov. 1 have been answered and are posted on the district's web site
