Immaculate Conception Graduates Are Ready for New Challenges

Some 85 seniors cross the stage to receive their diplomas.

Immaculate Conception High School held its Baccalaureate Mass and commencement ceremony Saturday, May 21, in IC Chapel.

The Mass was led by Bishop Joseph Siegel, who was joined by IC Pastor Fr. Tom Paul, Fr. Scott McCawley and Fr. James Murphy. Diplomas were presented to the 85 graduates by ICHS Principal Pamela Levar when the Mass was concluded.

The ICHS Class of 2011 will continue their education at some of the top colleges and universities in the country, earning acceptance and scholarships to prestigious schools, which include the University of Notre Dame, Northwestern, University of Illinois at Champaign, St. Mary’s College, Marquette University, Indiana University, Purdue University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Loyola University, and DePaul University.  The top 57 percent of the Class of 2011 earned nearly $5.5 million in college scholarships this year.

A brief summary of the achievements and highlights from the ICHS Class of 2011 are as follows:

  • Valedictorian: Michelle Navarrete
  • Co-Salutatorians: Patrick Burke and Natalie D’Agostino
  • 11 percent of the Class of 2011 are Illinois State Scholars
  • 36 percent of the Class of 2011 are members of the National Honor Society
  • 20 percent of the Class of 2011 are Presidential Scholars
  • Top 5 percent average ACT Score-31
  • Top 10 percent average ACT Score-29.75
  • Top 25 percent average ACT Score-27.85
  • 1 National Merit Commended Scholar
  • 2 Daily Herald Leadership Team Honorable Mentions
  • 2 Daily Herald Academic Team Honorable Mentions
  • 1 Eagle Scout
  • 1 President’s Volunteer Service Award winner
  • 88 percent of senior class participated at least one varsity sport or activity in 2010-11
  • 22 percent of the Class of 2011 named SCC Academic All Conference (fall and winter)
  • 2 SCC Conference titles (girls volleyball and softball)
  • 1 regional championship (girls volleyball)
  • 1 sectional title/Elite Eight finish (girls volleyball)
  • 3 individual state qualifiers (includes senior Patrick Haggerty for golf)
  • 1 Class 3A football Sweet 16 Playoff Round finish
  • 4 All-state selections (Patrick Haggerty for golf, and Allie DiVito, Anthony Loss and Demetruis Mobley for basketball)
  • 1 state medalist (Patrick Haggerty, golf, eighth place)
  • 1 team state qualifier (dance, fourth- and sixth-place finishes)
  • 2 SCC Players of the Year (includes senior Robert Rivera, football)
  • 23 SCC All Conference Athletes (includes 15 seniors)
  • 1 NCAA Division I Athlete
  • 1 NCAA Division ll Athlete
  • 7 NCAA Division III Athletes

Founded in 1936 by Monsignor William J. Plunkett, Immaculate Conception High School is the oldest Catholic, co-educational college preparatory high school in DuPage County.
