'Firearms Prohibited' Signs Installed in All District 205 Buildings

This sign, provided by the State of Illinois, must be posted by school districts, park officials, museum officials and others if they wish to prohibit concealed-carry on their properties.

Students will be seeing new signs at the entrances to Elmhurst District 205 schools indicating clearly that guns are prohibited on school grounds.

The signs were distributed recently to the administrators at all of Elmhurst's public schools, as "statutorily prohibited" facilities, according to an announcement by the district.

This past summer, Illinois passed Public Act 98-63, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, which allows properly licensed individuals to carry concealed firearms. School districts and other entities that prohibit firearms are required by this law to display a sign provided by the state to make it clear that firearms may not be brought onto school property.
