FBI, Elmhurst Police Investigate Morning Bank Robbery; Schools Placed on Lockdown

The Elmhurst Police Department and the FBI are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at Inland Bank, 539 S. Spring Road in Elmhurst, at 8:54 a.m. Wednesday, according to a city of Elmhurst alert sent at 11 a.m. 

Police said a white male wearing a mask entered the bank, demanded money and then fled on foot, according to the city of Elmhurst press release.

The offender fled to the intersection of Montrose and Saylor and entered a white or silver SUV that was waiting at the intersection, according to police. Witnesses told police a dye pack exploded, which could have "possibly contaminating the offender as he entered the vehicle," according to the news release.

Several schools were placed on lock-down Wednesday morning while police conducted a search of the area. The schools notified were Lincoln Elementary School, Bryan Middle School, Madison School and Jackson Elementary School. 

Agents from the FBI are currently on the scene and will be the lead agency handling the investigation in cooperation with the Elmhurst Police Department.
