NAMI Basics Course Offers Hope to Parents



The National Alliance on Mental Illness of DuPage
will offer the NAMI Basics Course in Wheaton for six consecutive Thursdays starting
on September 13th.  The
classes will meet from 7:00-9:30pm at the NAMI DuPage Office, 2100 Manchester
Road, Building B, Suite 925.  

NAMI Basics is a free education course led by trained
family members and developed specifically for parents and other family
caregivers of children and adolescents who have either been diagnosed with a
mental illness or who are experiencing symptoms but have not yet been
diagnosed.

Some of the topics covered are
mental illnesses as brain disorders, getting an accurate diagnosis, treatment
options, the impact on the family, and how to navigate the system (school,
mental health) for your child.

While NAMI Basics is an educational
course, NAMI DuPage also has a free, confidential parent support group that
meets at their Wheaton office on the 2nd and 4th Mondays
from 7:00–8:30pm.
