Festival of Lessons and Carols

The Festival of Lessons and Carols, which has been celebrated at Elmhurst College since 1961, is a bridge between the season of Advent and Christmastide. Following the same form that has been used on Christmas Eve at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, since 1918, the Festival tells the story of the birth of the Messiah through nine Scriptural readings, complemented throughout with the singing of carols and hymns by the Elmhurst College choirs and the congregation. At 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
