Elmhurst College Fraternity Sponsors Food Drive

The Elmhurst College chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha, a philanthropic fraternity, will again take part in the annual North American Food Drive.  All chapters of the national fraternity participate in the event each year, and the Elmhurst College chapter is asking the Elmhurst community to assist in this effort.

Paper grocery bags will be dropped off on porches or front steps of homes throughout the Elmhurst community on Sunday, Nov. 14.  The fraternity brothers ask that they be filled with nonperishable food items.

On the following Sunday, Nov. 21, the filled grocery bags will be picked up from porches and delivered to Yorkfield Presbyterian Church's food pantry.

In 1993, 149 chapters took part in the inaugural event.  More than 250,000 pounds of food was donated to local food banks on that day, and more than 8,000 brothers participated.  Since then, the North American Food Drive has continued to grow and several chapters now collect individually more than 100,000 pounds of food.

Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is one of the largest men's general fraternities in North America, with more than 260,000 initiated members, and more than 200 active chapters at colleges and universities. It was the first fraternity to eliminate pledging in the early 1970s, and it remains a leader in the fight against hazing, alcohol abuse, drugs, and other challenges facing today's college student.
