Elmhurst Unit District 205 Board Requests Mediation for Teachers’ Union Negotiations

Mediation is a free service; mediator should be in place within two weeks.

Elmhurst Unit District 205 and the Elmhurst teachers union have jointly requested the services of a mediator to facilitate the negotiation of a new collective bargaining agreement, according to a press release from District 205.

The District 205 Board and the Elmhurst Teachers’ Council Local 571 American Federation of Teachers began contract negotiations in October, following training in interest-based bargaining.

IBB is a collaborative process which allows both teams to gain a full understanding of each others' interests and concerns. It was mutually agreed when the process began that if the two teams could not make substantive progress by February, the services of a mediator would be employed.
