Arctic Grip: What is Closed in Elmhurst Today?

National Weather Service warns of dangerously cold temperatures until Wednesday.

Here's a look at what you won't be doing today in and around Elmhurst.

Elmhurst Public and Private Schools

Due to extreme weather conditions, all Elmhurst public and private schools are closed Tuesday, Jan. 28. Elmhurst Unit District 205, Timothy Christian Schools, Immanuel Lutheran School, Visitation Catholic School and IC Catholic Prep have canceled all classes and after-school activities. The District 205 Administration Center will be open, however.

Elmhurst College campus also will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 28. Classes are canceled and college offices will be closed, but food service for resident students will be available. 

Elmhurst Park District

Wagner Community Center, all recreation buildings and The Abbey again will be closed Tuesday. All programs scheduled at park facilities and Elmhurst District 205 school buildings have been canceled.

Courts Plus Fitness Center and Kids Plus Childcare will be open during regular hours, but Kids Plus programs, and all classes including tennis, martial arts and group exercise have been canceled. 

Sled hills at Berens, Eldridge and Ben Allison parks, as well as ice skating at Eldridge Lagoon, are open but outdoor activities are not recommended during the extreme cold weather. 

The Park District's administrative office at 375 W. First St. will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (630) 993-8900 for more information.

DuPage Forest Preserve District

All district offices and educational centers will remain closed until 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. The 60 forest preserves closed one hour after sunset Monday and will remain closed until one hour after sunrise Wednesday, Jan. 29.  

The special call commission meeting and planning session scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28 have also been canceled.

O'Hare Airport

Extreme weather has caused hundreds of flight delays and cancellations into and out of O'Hare and Midway airports, according to NBC Chicago
