Elmhurst District 205 Stands to Recoup More Than $70,000 From Two Non-resident Students

One of the students was attending District 205 schools illegitimately since 2007.

The families of two students who have been attending Elmhurst public schools while living outside district boundaries are being charged full tuition for the time they illegitimately attended District 205 schools.

District 205 School Board members on April 23 voted unanimously to disenroll students "A.H." and "Y.P." as of Friday, April 26, and send their families a bill for the education they've received.

"A.H." has been attending District 205 schools illegitimately since the 2007-08 school year. The board voted to charge tuition for that student of $66,0490.11. With tuition of $4,522.50 owed by "Y.P.," who has violated the district's residency rules since 2012, the total reimbursement to District 205 will be $70,571.61.

During an earlier closed session, board members reviewed the findings and recommendations of a hearing officer, who said the students "are not and have not been residing in the School District attendance boundaries on a regular and fixed basis" since they began attending District 205 schools. The board approved those findings with a public vote during its regular meeting.
