District 205 Students Can Donate a Lunch Box, Musical Instrument, School Supplies and More Next Week

Unwanted supplies will be distributed to Chicago Public Schools and schools in Harvey.

The 2012 Great Donation Day is now a week.

During the last week of school, May 21-29, students in Elmhurst District 205 and their families are encouraged to donate used school supplies. Donation drop boxes will be placed in each school. Accepted items include crayons, pencils, pens, markers, scissors, pencil cases, rulers, folders, backpacks, glue bottles/sticks, highlighters, notebook paper, lunch boxes and working musical instruments.

The district is asking parents to discuss with their children before the end of school which supplies should be brought home for reuse and which items can be donated. The designated charity, Schools Count Corp., will distribute supplies to Chicago Public Schools and schools in Harvey.

Repurposing gently used school supplies also benefits the environment by keeping those items out of landfills. For more information on The Great Donation Day, contact Barbara Lonergan at (630) 415-4229; blonergan3@yahoo.com. This is not a PTA-sponsored event.
