District 205 School Board will Hear Presentation on Race to the Top Tuesday

Also, IMEA All-staters will be recognized and several donations are expected to be approved.

Elmhurst Unit District 205 School Board will hold its regular business meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the District 205 administration building.

The board will first meet in closed session at 6 p.m. to discuss student residency and collective negotiations.

At the public meeting, the board will recognize via proclamation the All-state Illinois Music Educators Association competitors from York High School. Students audition and compete to earn a place in the district's honor ensemble, from which All-state Musicians are chosen.

All-state musicians from York are Abigail Arnold (bassoon), Annamarie Giordano (soprano voice), Nathan Gornick (clarinet), Gretchen Hedrick (alto voice), Helen Knudsen (soprano voice), Haley Kost (clarinet), Timothy McDunn (composition), William McGing (double bass - jazz), Cathleen McGovern (soprano voice), Caitlin McManus (alto voice), Kyle Meadors (composition), James Mueller (tenor voice), Madeline Mueller (violin), Brianna Murray (soprano voice), Julia Oliver (soprano voice), Michael Pettineo (trumpet), Keith Pierzchala (double bass), Kelsey Roberts (alto voice), Elena Schwarz (clarinet), Michael St. Peter (tenor voice) and Emily Uddenberg (soprano voice).

The board will then welcome public comments for up to three minutes per person on any topic.

The superintendent's report consists of information on Freedom of Information Act requests and a presentation on Race to the Top.

Board members will then approve minutes from the Jan. 24 and Feb. 14 meetings, and hear reports from the Board Improvement and Policy Committee  and the Finance and Operations Committee.

In addition to the approval of personnel and financial reports, the superintendent's consent agenda includes the acceptance of several donations:

  • Jefferson School—two Smart Boards from proceeds from the Scholastic Book Fair in December
  • Conrad Fischer School—six monthly checks of $499 from an Oregon woman who saw a Chicago Tribune article about improved test scores at the school. The money will be used for the purchase of one iPad per month.
  • District 205 third-grade students—Dictionaries from the Elmhurst Elks Club 1531 worth $1,130. The donation stems from the Dictionary Project, founded in 1995, which aims to distribute dictionaries to as many U.S. third-graders as possible.

The consent agenda also includes approval of a first reading of a policy on access to electronic networks.

The board will then review its upcoming meetings, take action on closed session items related to student residency and hear any other reports from board members.
