District 205 School Board is Providing Time for Two-way Communication with Residents Tuesday

Residents are invited to come and have their questions answered or raise concerns, then stay for the board's business meeting—or not.

The Elmhurst Unit District 205 School Board wants to hear what's on the minds of residents.

The first Meet the Board session will be held right before the School Board's regular business meeting, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the , 162 S. York St. The public is always welcome to speak during public comment at the School Board meetings, but this is an opportunity for board members to respond to residents' questions and concerns in an open, informal forum.

Residents are welcome to stick around after the board convenes at 7:30 p.m. for a public hearing on the limitation of administrative costs.

Illinois State School Code requires school districts to limit the increase of their administrative expenditures to a maximum of 5 percent from one fiscal year to the next. District 205’s budgeted expenditure is in excess of the 5 percent threshold.  This excess was caused by retaining former Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Pat Masterton through October 2011 while the district employed her replacement, Chris Whelton, beginning July 1, 2011.  The board determined that the continuity provided by retaining Masterton's services was critical to day-to-day operations.

After the public hearing, the board will adjourn to its regular meeting. First order of business will be to recognize 2012 graduate for winning first place at the state track meet May 26. Sgarbossa cleared 16 feet, 3 inches to win the title in pole vault.

The board will then take public comment. Members of the community are invited to speak for up to three minutes on any topic.

Superintendent David Pruneau will then review Freedom of Information Act requests, and present a review of board meeting procedures.

Next on the agenda will be approval of minutes of previous meetings, and reports from representatives of the Improvement and Policy, Curriculum and Instruction, and Finance and Operations committees.

In addition to personnel and financial reports, the superintendents consent agenda will include the following items:

  • Approval to open certain closed session minutes and keep all other closed session minutes closed
  • Approval to authorize destruction of verbatim recordings of closed session minutes
  • Approval of the reclassification from unassigned fund balance to committed fund balance
  • Approval to re-market surplus technology equipment
  • Approval of various policy manual updates

The board will then vote to approve the banks, savings and loans, and investment pools the district will use in the 2012-2013 school year. Another vote will be taken to waive the limitation on administrative costs as outlined in the public hearing.

Finally, the board will review upcoming meetings and vote on an item out of its 6 p.m. closed session, employment of an employee.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
