District 205 Curriculum Specialist Named Superintendent in West Chicago

Dr. Charles Johns will leave his Elmhurst District 205 position next summer.

Elmhurst Unit District 205 is saying goodbye to one of its administrators.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Charles Johns has accepted a position as superintendent of West Chicago Elementary District 33, Suburban Life is reporting. Johns, who was chosen from more than 50 applicants, starts next summer.

Johns served on the Elmhurst District 205 cabinet since summer 2011. He has a PhD in educational leadership and policy studies from Loyola University. His work in District 205 was focused on curriculum development to increase college and career readiness, data analysis, the English Language Learners program and designing a system for academic intervention.

"(Johns) is highly regarded among his peers and is an intentional, engaging leader," a press release from District 33 states.

Johns said he was honored to join District 33.

“It is clear that there is an overwhelming sense of public support for West Chicago District 33 and its employees,” Johns said in the release.

District 33 enrolls 4,114 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade. The district has six elementary schools, two preschools and one middle school, and takes in students from West Chicago and portions of Winfield and Wheaton.
