Shortly after the election results indicated a win for newcomer Dannee Polomsky in the 3rd Ward, supporters applauded and shouted in congratulations at a gathering at Fitz's Pub in downtown Elmhurst.
A supporter leaned over excitedly and spoke to one of Polomsky's young sons.
"Your mom won by a landslide!" she declared. "Thank God we have a good alderman!"
Polomsky shed a few tears, which she assured her friends were tears of joy.
"I'm so grateful for all the support," she said. "I'm so proud that I ran a grassroots campaign and (proud of) the way we in which we ran our campaign."
Polomsky was visibly surprised when she saw her brother walk in. Gerry Wondrasek came from Barrington to show his support.
"I didn't know he was coming," said Polomsky, wiping tears from her eyes.
"I came to support my sister," Wondrasek said. "She's put a lot of effort into this. I wanted to be there for her."
