Why Are You Seeking Re-election?

I am seeking re-election as it is my goal to be a part of the team that implements our newly adopted strategic plan, which will focus around four broad-brushed themes:

  • Customer-centered service
  • Fiscal agility
  • Improvement through collaboration and innovation
  • Continuous improvement through an empowered team

Additionally, there are many projects I wish to see come to fruition. One of the projects that I am very excited about is the renovation of the Wilder Conservatory and greenhouse.

What will be your highest priority if elected?

If re-elected, I will continue to make fiscally conservative decisions during these challenging times as we plan for our future and our children’s future.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I have had the privilege of serving on the EPD Board for 18 years. I believe I have the tools and knowledge to bring to the table. I have lived in Elmhurst since the age of 7.

What type of amenities would you like to see in a south Elmhurst anchor park?

As a community, we continue to fight the obstacle that we are a land-locked. The need for additional soccer/lacrosse/football fields continue to be a challenge as we attempt to meet the growing needs of our youth sports teams.

The Park/City/School committee has been well-received as a way to conserve resources and save money for all three taxing bodies. The Park District, as steward of the land and keeper of grounds, plays a big role in that cooperation. Are there any new or expanded possibilities for intergovernmental agreements?

Elmhurst has the largest population of senior citizens in DuPage County, so it must continue to provide services that are fiscally conservative for those people on a fixed income. One possibility may be collaborating with Elmhurst Health Care to provide additional support for fitness opportunities.

Are the parks as safe as they can be? If there is room for improvement, what would you recommend?

I believe our parks are very safe thanks to our exemplary Police Department and their consistent efforts as they patrol our parks and streets. Additionally, our Park Ambassadors ensure positive interactions within our parks.

Do you favor any types of corporate sponsorships as a means to increase revenue?

Since I have been on the board, we have been successful in receiving millions of dollars in grants and donations. We are partners with many of the businesses in Elmhurst, and due to their sponsorships of programs, we are able to leverage our resources for programs and services. Additionally, we are partners with the People for Elmhurst Parks Foundation. PEP covers various costs for our park District, such as redecorating the Wilder Mansion, which has been a very successful enterprise. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources grants have brought in millions of dollars! EPD’s latest IDNR grant consists of $1.85 million and has facilitated the restoration of the conservatory and greenhouse. I will continue to support the use and partnership of grants, foundations, as well as the support of private businesses during these fiscally challenging times.

Is there anything else would you like to get across to voters?

It would be my sincere privilege to serve on the Elmhurst Park Board so that I may be a part of the Elmhurst Park District team that continues to enrich the lives of our youth as well as the young at heart.
