Odds and Ends from Elmhurst City Hall

Voting, flooding, a promotion and awards were on the agenda Oct. 4.

• Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni swore in Fire Department Battalion Chief William Anaszewicz Oct. 4. "Our people are No. 1 to us. They make us who we are, " DiCianni said. "They risk their lives every day to protect our families."

• Elmhurst Fire Station No. 2 was named a Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design-certified fire station from the National Green Building Council. Only five fire stations in Illinois have earned the designation. The building, designed by FGM Architects and built by McHugh Construction, earned a Silver rating for being built with sustainable materials. "The state of the art building was brought in on time and under budget," Mayor DiCianni said Oct. 4. The fire station also earned a Bronze Award from Fire Chief magazine in the station style category. More than 100 stations nationwide entered the competition. 

• Anyone wishing to apply for disaster assistance for damage incurred from last summer's flooding has until Oct. 18 to apply to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. For more information, call FEMA at (800) 621-3362.

• The city's first educational workshop on the storm water and sanitary sewer process will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the city's Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall, 209 N. York St. The topic will be an overview of wastewater treatment plant operations. Subsequent public meetings will be held Mondays, Oct. 25, Nov. 18 and Nov. 22. Topics will be posted on the city's Web site at www.elmhurst.org.

• Grace-period voter registration will take place through Oct. 26 at the DuPage Election Commission, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. Regular voter registration ended Oct. 5; those who register during the grace period must vote at the time of registration. For more information, call the DuPage Election Commission at (630) 407-5600.

• Early voting for the Nov. 2 General Election will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12-28 at City Hall, 209 N. York St. Visit www. dupageelections.com for more information.

Candidate filing will take place between Dec. 13 and 20 at City Hall. Seven aldermanic positions are open, one from each ward.
