New City Council Members Ready to Step Into Their Committee Assignments Tonight

Council will meet first in closed session, then in a special meeting and finally in committees.

Elmhurst City Council will hold an executive session at 6:30 p.m. tonight, May 23, followed by a special meeting at 7:30 p.m., before aldermen break into their committee meetings at around 8:15 p.m.

In closed session, aldermen will discuss collective bargaining and threatened or imminent litigation.

The subsequent special meeting, which will be open to the public, will include presentation of a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Financial Officers Association.

Aldermen will then consider a request from Elmhurst City Centre to use city properties for Cool Cars on Wednesdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day; the Hometown Art with Heart public art display, featuring benches painted by area school children, June through September; and Bootiful Saturday, the traditional downtown trick-or-treating event, on Oct. 29. The request will be forwarded to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee for review.

The Council then is expected to approve the following committee assignments:

  • Public Works and Buildings: Jim Kennedy, Bob Dunn, Chris Healy and Diane Gutenkauf
  • Public Affairs and Safety: Patrick Wagner, Paula Pezza, Michael Bram
  • Finance, Council Affairs and Administrative Services: Steve Hipskind, Kevin York, Mark Mulliner and Scott Levin
  • Devleopment, Planning and Zoning: Steve Morley, Dannee Polomsky and Norm Leader

The special meeting will conclude with a report from City Manager Tom Borchert on 2011-13 City Council orientation for standing committees.
