Museum Budget To See More Scrutiny

Communications tower for Elmhurst Hospital, tree removal also discussed at City Council meeting.

An Elmhurst alderman called for a cap on how much the city spends on the Elmhurst Historical Museum each year as part of the council's ongoing analysis of the 2011-2012 budget Monday.

Fifth Ward Alderman Chris Healy, in asking the council to consider an annual ceiling on spending for the museum, cautioned that he was not looking to cut the facility's budget, but wanted officials to know exactly how much it was getting each year. Other alderman, including 3rd Ward Alderman Susan Rose, opposed this idea, saying that the museum took a large financial hit last year and should not be asked to sacrifice any more than any other department.

Alderman also discussed a recommendation by both the Development, Planning and Zoning Committee and the Zoning and Planning Commission to allow Elmhurst Memorial Health Care to construct a 192-foot communications tower at EMH's Church Court Business Center. The tower would allow EMH facilities to ensure immediate communication with each other.  Alderman Michael Bram was concerned because the tower, if approved, would be taller than similar structures approved in the past.
