Mayor Morley Will Present His Pick Monday for New 6th Ward Alderman

Steve Morley's election to mayor left a vacancy in the 6th Ward. If confirmed, Michael Honquest will fill the remainder of his term, which is two years.

Elmhurst City Council on Monday will hear Mayor Steve Morley's recommendation for appointment to the empty 6th Ward aldermanic seat.

Morley is seeking City Council confirmation for Michael Honquest, who is an account manager for Forsythe Technology, a national technology consulting firm headquartered in New Jersey. He has a bachelor's degree from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.

On his application, Honquest said his civic activities include serving on the Visitation Parish Council and as a YMCA and Elmhurst baseball coach.

"I love the city and believe in giving back when and where I am able," he wrote. 

Morley, in a June 26 memo to members of the City Council, said he interviewed a number of "well qualified candidates."

"Mr. Honquest has a firm commitment to serve his community and his neighborhood," Morley said. "I believe he will do a find job representing all the residents of the 6th Ward and Elmhurst."

Morley will present Honquest after approval of the consent agenda. In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda includes the following items are up for approval:

  • Immaculate Conception Parish Block Party, IC Fest, on Sept. 7—referral to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee
  • request from 3rd Ward Alderman Michael Bram for more frequent street sweeping—referral to the Public Works and Buildings Committee
  • purchase of three Ford Escapes for $63,590
  • purchase of one Dodge Grand Caravan for $19,724
  • purchase of one Vactor Ramjet Model F flusher truck for $222,732
  • tree trimming contract with Homer Tree Care for $427,000 a year for three years
  • a contract addendum from Christopher Burke Engineering in the amount of $61,600 for the 2013 flood study
  • radio-control car race July 21 at Al's Hobby Shop
  • sale of six automated external defibrillators
  • Runner's Soul's Lucky Leprechaun 5-K race March 16
  • Mary Queen of Heaven 5-K run Oct. 5
  • Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot Nov. 28
  • adoption of the DuPage natural hazards mitigation plan
  • fourth letter of agreement with Addison Corridor Development LLC
  • sale by auction of seized vehicles
  • Churchville Charge event Aug. 24
  • appropriations for special service areas 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15
  • wastewater services charges for private well and sewer systems
  • adoption of revisions to the DuPage Countywide Stormwater and Flood Plain Ordinance
  • release of closed session minutes
  • award to TranSystems Corp. for engineering services related to Phase 3 of the St. Charles Road resurfacing project at a cost not to exceed $75,879
  • check valve reimbursement program for homeowners unable to install overhead sewers
  • award of sanitary sewer lining project to Visu-Sewer of Illinois, the lowest bidder, at a cost not to exceed $780,839
  • contract with RJN Group for long-term sanitary flow monitoring at a cost not to exceed $105,500
  • resolution approving the DuPage County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan

After Morley presents Honquest for confirmation, aldermen will hear any additional reports from staff.

The meeting will be held in council chambers at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St., at 7:30 p.m.
