Kirk Recovers From Gall Bladder Surgery

North Shore Senator expected to return home from hospital Tuesday.

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) is recovering at Lake Forest Hospital after surgeons removed his gall bladder Monday, and he is expected to be released Tuesday, according to hospital spokesperson Jane Griffin.

Kirk, who checked in to the hospital after suffering a stroke nearly two years ago, went there Saturday complaining of stomach pain. Gall stones were detected and the surgery scheduled, according to a news release from the hospital.

A quick recovery is expected, according to a statement from Kirk’s office. Griffin believes he should be back to work within one to two weeks. “Most people who have this surgery return to normal activities in a week or two,” Griffin said. “It could be sooner.”
