Illinois Lottery Powerball Pot of Gold Tops $200 Million; Drawing is Tonight

Illinois Lottery could provide an extra happy St. Patrick's Day for a lucky winner.

There’s an Irish blessing that says “may your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, May good luck pursue you each morning and night," according to The Quote Garden website.

A lucky winner may have heavy pockets and a light heart thanks to the $200 million plus Powerball jackpot up for grabs this weekend.

The Powerball jackpot rolled over this week and stands at $216 million, Illinois Lottery officials said Thursday. The next drawing is today, Saturday, March 16.

The current jackpot has a cash value of $132.8 million and $92.9 million after taxes, lottery officials said.

Comedian and TV personality Andy Richter stars in a new multi-media ad campaign. He portrays Gil Mitchell, an eccentric news anchor who lets Illinoisans know when there’s a huge jackpot. The ads will run anytime the jackpot exceeds $100 million.

Saturday’s drawing will be held at 9:50 p.m.

The Lottery also has a special St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle where it will give four winners $1 million each. Five tickets are worth $100,000. Tickets cost $20 a piece, and the drawing will be held on Sunday, March 17.

There were 101,455 tickets available as of Thursday evening.
