Hultgren Co-sponsors Bill to Delay, Defund Obamacare

"While we are doing everything we can to slow down this destructive law, I want to make sure my constituents are prepared for what's ahead on Oct. 1."

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) on Sept. 18 joined 73 of his colleagues in supporting the Stability, Security and Fairness Resolution of 2013, H.J.Res 62, a continuing resolution which would keep the government running for the next year but delay and defund the Affordable Care Act until 2015.

Hultgren released the following statement:

“Families and individuals are at risk from a state exchange rollout just around the corner fraught with opportunities for fraud and identify theft, and we need to do everything we can to stop Obamacare’s federalization of health insurance in its tracks. Our job in Congress is to reform and improve government. There are no winners if the federal government shuts down, so I’m proud to support this approach which will keep our government running, our troops paid, our industry permits and small business loans approved on time, and will push the pause button on Obamacare.

“The Senate is going for broke betting Obamacare will keep President Obama’s promise that health care costs won’t rise, you can keep your doctor, and you can keep your current insurance plan, but we’ve seen the opposite. Let’s reconsider implementing this law further before it causes more damage.

“While we are doing everything we can to slow down this destructive law, I want to make sure my constituents are prepared for what’s ahead on Oct. 1. Illinois is keeping residents in the dark about what plans will be available on the state exchange or how much they’ll cost. We need answers from the state so residents can plan for their healthcare needs.”
