Darlene Heslop Withdraws Her Challenge to School Board Candidates' Nominating Papers

Jim Collins and Emily Bastedo can continue their campaigns for District 205 Board.

The Elmhurst District 205 Electoral Board hearing scheduled for 4 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 11, has been canceled.

The hearing originally was scheduled to hear petition challenges filed by Elmhurst resident Darlene Heslop against two School Board candidates, board President Jim Collins and newcomer Emily Bastedo.

According to an announcement from the District 205 administrative office, the hearing was canceled because Heslop withdrew her objections to the nomination papers of both candidates.

In addition to Collins and Bastedo, Alan Brinkmeier and Margaret Harrell each are seeking one of the three open seats on the School Board. The terms of Susan DeRonne and Maria Hirsch are expiring this year, but they are not seeking re-election.

Heslop challenged the candidacy of 7th Ward Alderman Pat Wagner in his bid for re-election to Elmhurst City Council, but that challenge was dismissed Jan. 7 on the grounds that Heslop does not live in Wagner's ward.

The Consolidated Election will be held April 9.
